FAQs

What is planned for the site and why is Woolworths planning a new supermarket in Pinjarra?

Woolworths is proposing a new regional supermarket to be located on the prominent entrance to Pinjarra on the corner of Pinjarra Road and Roe Avenue.

Located within the townsite the central location will be easily accessible and provide a much-needed retail choice for locals and visitors, particularly as the population is set to increase in the coming years.

What is the current planning status of the project?

The 1.9ha parcel of land is owned by Woolworths and is mixed zoning, with the front of the site zoned ‘Town Centre’ and the rear of the site zoned. Woolworths have prepared a Development Application via the State Significant Development Pathway.

Is there a design for the supermarket I can view?

The project has gone through early concept planning looking at potential orientation of buildings, parking and landscaping.  Preliminary concept drawings have been prepared by Hames Sharley which can be viewed here, noting that we are looking to the community to help us refine and enhance our early ideas.

Will the petrol station remain onsite?

Yes, the petrol station will remain and be retained by the current owners.

How do vehicles and people enter the site?

There will be two main points of entry for vehicles, one via Pinjarra road, the other from Roe Avenue, reducing traffic impact to adjacent neighbours. A discrete, loading entry is planned for James Street via Roe Avenue and will include a comprehensive landscaping buffer to reduce visual and noise impacts from the site.

What is the size of the planned supermarket?

Within the 1.9ha site the building will cover 5645 m², which includes a full line Woolworths supermarket.

Will there be parking on site?

Yes, we are planning for 248 car bays onsite, shaded parking bays will be available. There will also be space for motorbikes and bike racks. All parking bays will be kept onsite.

What type of art or amenity is planned for the site?

Given its prominent gateway entry into town, Woolworths is keen to include an iconic piece of public art acting as a welcome statement and wayfinding for travellers on Pinjarra Road. There is also opportunity for integrated artwork on and around the building itself. What this could be and looks like are being explored with the community and will be considered as the project progresses.

Will there be direct-to-boot pick up facilities?

Yes! Eight pick-up bays are included in the preliminary parking designs likely to be accessed off Roe Avenue.

Will there be any other stores or services within the development?

As part of the development there will be a number of smaller specialty and food and beverage stores. Potential tenants have not been confirmed at this early stage, however likely options are food and beverage, local services and/or retail to meet local needs.

Who are you talking to during the project?

We have been in touch with key stakeholders, including the Shire of Murray. During this round of community engagement, we are also directly contacting adjacent residential neighbours to discuss any specific questions about the proposed development.

There will be a pop-up event from 4pm – 6pm 11 December 2024 at the Civic Centre in Pinjarra where the local community can view the proposed plans and provide feedback.

Opening Hours are proposed to align with Woolworths’ standard operating hours:
